Frequently Asked Questions
How do I use a tool?
Navigate to any tool from the homepage or the navigation menu. Enter your query in the input field (for example, a domain name, IP address, or text string) and click the Probe button. Results will appear instantly below the input area. Most tools also include a brief description and usage tips on the page itself.
Is my data safe?
Yes. Many of our tools run entirely in your browser — your data never leaves your device. For tools that require a server-side lookup (such as DNS or WHOIS), your query is processed in memory and immediately discarded. We do not log queries, store results, or collect personal information. Read our Privacy Policy for full details.
Why did my lookup fail?
There are a few common reasons a lookup might not return results:
- Invalid input: Double-check that the domain name, IP address, or other input is formatted correctly.
- Domain does not exist: The domain may not be registered or may have expired.
- Rate limiting: If you have made many requests in a short period, you may be temporarily rate-limited. Wait a minute and try again.
- Upstream timeout: Occasionally, external DNS servers or WHOIS registrars are slow to respond. Try again in a few moments.
If the problem persists, let us know and we will investigate.
Do you store my queries?
No. Server-side tools process your input in memory and discard it immediately after returning results. Client-side tools never send your data to our servers at all. The only data stored locally in your browser is your theme preference (dark/light mode) and a list of recently used tools for convenience.
Is this really free?
Yes, completely free. There are no premium tiers, no feature gates, and no account required. Probe Toolkit is supported by advertising and is free to use for both personal and commercial purposes.
Can I use Probe Toolkit for commercial work?
Absolutely. You are welcome to use any of our tools and their results for commercial, professional, or educational purposes. See our Terms of Service for details.
Do you have a dark mode?
Yes. Dark mode is the default. You can switch between dark and light themes using the toggle button in the header. Your preference is saved locally in your browser.
